Justin was a wonderful tour guide! Constantly keeping us engaged and laughing. Very knowledgeable and was able to answer every question we threw at him. Great way to see the big island in a day!
What started out as an early morning, we drove to HNL airport, parked our rental car for $29 for the day. Boarded a 6am flight to Hilo, grabbed a Starbucks and were on our way. We did not need a jacket for the plane as it was the first flight and not super air conditioned. When we landed in Hilo we were met by Sean our guide for the day. Loaded up into the van, lucky for us it was only our group that day. Along the drive to Volcano park Sean was great about showing us things along the way to pass the time. We spent a good amount of time learning about the volcano ash, lava, Pele hair etc. The lava fields are so vast and intriguing. We loved seeing the fast moving and slow moving patterns along with where it meets the ocean. Feeling the steam vent was a beautiful unexpected facial. We stopped at many craters, walked the lava tube which was really cool. The rainbow falls was really nice and seeing the Banyon trees is always a sight. We ate lunch in the market and did a little shopping. We had to be wary of what to buy because we backpacked the day and had no checked luggage for the flight back. We walked the Liluokalani gardens and saw the Nene birds. We stopped at a black sand beach, caught some sea turtles and enjoyed the shore for a bit. Then on to Big Island Candies for a sample and some treats shopping. I was not a Macadamia fan before this trip, but the shortbread cookies are amazing. We had a great day with Sean and he provided us with waters and snacks to get us through the day. Highly recommend and was definitely a highlight to our Hawaii trip.

A terrific tour!!!
Can't imagine a better experience! Justin is an excellent tour guide! The tour van is his own and he keeps it in excellent condition. The tour is well organized with enough time at each of the stops to get a good experience of Hilo and the surrounding areas. He gets you as close to the volcano as you possibly can. The visit to the lava tube, the Rainbow Falls stop and the sea turtles stop are also memorable highlights.

Man I can’t say enough good things about Big Mike and his tour. Soo professional. He took the time to show us a slide show during our tour, he explained each and every stop, gave us history of the big island. He got off with us and walked with the group at each stop and gave us some insight on each stop and history of each stop, its significance to the island. Our Lunch stop was great. Food was awesome. His van is nice and comfortable, very clean and tidy. He’s super polite and very engaging with his guests and makes you feel like Ohana. Loved this tour and it’s no surprise Big Mike is booked out! It was very convenient as Big Mike picks you up and drops you back and the cruise ship. We enjoyed visiting the volcanoes and all the other places we stopped. Big Mike is a local and his knowledge and stories was terrific. One of the best tours I've ever done. Hotel to airport pickup and flights all ran smoothly as described. Sean was THE BEST! Very relaxed, accommodating and answered all our curious questions. Sean was obviously proud about his island and it's wonderful features. We didn't see Mt Kilauea erupting but Sean sent pictures of the eruption from 2 days before. Water and snacks were also part of the tour which was a nice touch. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

Justin is a one man tour expert! Such a wonderful personality. Very personable, knowledgeable and a wealth of knowledge. The tour was a passenger van that held 12 passengers. The van was immaculate! There was plenty of opportunities to ask questions and free water was provided. The stops were breathtaking. The volcano, the waterfalls. WOW! We also stopped at the macadamia nut farm and candy/cookie factory. The opportunity to try samples and buy some sweets were fantastic. Ending the day at the beach watching turtles (honu) was wonderful. It was a fun packed day with a lot to see and do. Justin is just fantastic. I would highly recommend.

We had an outstanding experience on the Hilo Big Island Volcano Day Tour on July 23, 2026, with Tournet Hawaii, Inc., booked through Cool Hawaii. Our guide, Sean, was absolutely exceptional. His knowledge of Hawaii was remarkable—from its rich history and unique culture to the native plants, geology, and volcanic landscapes. Every stop was filled with fascinating information that made the island come alive. Sean kept the tour perfectly on schedule while still allowing everyone enough time to enjoy each destination. His restaurant recommendation was fantastic and turned out to be one of the best meals of our trip. Rain Didn’t Dampen a Wonderful Experience!
Our tour guide Sean and driver Eugene were excellent. Sean was very knowledgeable, professional and attentive. It rained during our entire tour - but we still had a wonderful time, and Sean had umbrellas. (Bring your rain gear and water resistant shoes just in case because it rains quite often in Hilo). We explored Volcanoes National Park, including Kilauea, Volcano House lodge, steam vents and lava flows. We loved Thurston Lava Tube and then went on to enjoy lunch at Hilo Farmers Market, where they had music and dancers. We also enjoyed Rainbow Falls, Big Island Candies, the gardens, and the black sand beach. This tour moves quickly to give you an opportunity to see as much as you can, but we did not feel rushed. Sean and Eugene kept everything going at a nice pace that gave us enough time to enjoy each location while still staying on schedule to see everything. Our group included one child (age 11) and two adults in their 70s, and they had no issues keeping up or accessing the attractions. The stairs into the lava tube can be a little slippery when wet, but we just went slow and everyone was fine. Great tour - and if it’s raining on the day you’re booked, don’t let that deter you. Just grab your rain gear and go. You won’t regret it!
