It is an easy hike (uphill but slow moving) amongst a beautiful cloud forest that was only restarted in 1982. Before then it was open grassland for cattle. Trees and undergrowth are beautiful. Trail is well maintained. Our guide, Daphne, was very knowledgeable and willing to answer all questions. Great way to learn about Hawaii’s plant life.

Wow! What an amazing day! We would never have gotten nearly as much out of our time at Volcano had we hiked out on our own. Our guide John was the best…kind, knowledgeable, and so patient with a very inquisitive 12 year old. He has immense knowledge of cultural history, geology and botany. Wish we could have had more time and learned even more from John. Highly recommend! Great communication during a during an uncertain time and they even gave us a heads up the day before our schedule tour that an eruption had started so we could get to the area earlier.

Me and my wife had an amazing time on this tour. Our guide, Jon, was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly. You can tell he really takes pride in his job and ensured everyone had the best experience possible. The waterfalls and views were stunning. The actually hiking between waterfalls / sites was brief but totally approximately 1 mile. The lunch provided was better than expected and very filling with a one of a kind view on a private cliffside picnic area.

Hawaii Forest and trail is a fabulous company for finding some big island native and endemics. On our tour we were able to spend 6/7 hours in Hakalau Forest with our guide Gary. Gary was incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic host. He was willing to answer all and any questions and seemed genuinely happy to be there and us find birds! The day is good value for money, and gives you access to an otherwise private area. With a max of 10 guests on the tour, it feels personal and not crowded. This was great for not scaring away any birds and feeling connected with the landscape. Best for any birders or nature enthusiasts who want to spot some incredibly unique bird life and have a great atmosphere along the way!

While we were disappointed that Kilauea was not fountaining, our guide, Jill, was very knowledgeable about the previous eruptions and lava flows in the park as well as the flora and fauna. My husband and I were the only guests as the other group who had reservations cancelled at the last minute but this company didn’t cancel on us. So we basically had a private tour!

It was very exciting. The guides were very knowledgeable and have a lot of rock climbing experience. The made the experience feel fun and safe. My sister and I have very little experience and my brother is an experienced rock climber and it was fun for all levels. The waterfall was beautiful and it was a very unique experience. Great hike up the ridge; I would rate it moderate, since it was long. The highlights were the cave or lava tube, the amazing view, and the variety of berries to try. The tour is very well organized; they provide backpacks, water, snacks, windbreakers, and gloves. Everything is good quality, well worth the money paid. The guide is very knowledgeable and points out all the interesting landscape and tells you the legends of the island.
