The 11 hr tour did not feel long at all because we had the best tour guide, “Kona Chris”!! We were picked up from the Hilton on Kona side and the first stop was Kona coffee tour. We tasted different roasts and were introduced to apple banana and the best banana bread. Chris is very knowledgeable with the history of the island. We had timed restroom stops along the way. The company and Chris effortlessly adjusted our lunch stop to a winery due to recent hurricane damages in the southern tip of the island. It was quite a treat- an impromptu small sample tasting and ended up buying a bottle of their Syrah with grapes from the vineyard Apparently, there are 2 wineries on the island. The weather was not cooperating and we did not get to see the volcanic crater (cannot fight Mother Nature). The stops were timed perfectly and we did not feel rushed at all. Highly recommend!!

So many beautiful stops
I am glad we left Oahu to see the national park and other beautiful parts of the big island. The weather at the top where you look out at the volcano was windy and rainy but still great! It was so cool to go from the outlook over the volcano to seeing what the cooled lava looked liked and then to change drastically to a tropical eco system to walk through the lava tube. Then we got additional site setting that included things like beautiful waterfalls. I would recommend it for sure!

Very Good experience!
We spent longer time than expected to see the sunset and the stars. My tour guide John was very nice, kind, and knowledgable. He had warm clothes and a lot of snacks prepared for everyone. He also helped us take some photos. Overall I got a really great tour and I would really recommend you to book it.

Nice relaxing and enjoyable tour. Stefan was so knowlegable and informative of the island. I learned so much and the scenery where we stopped was so beautiful. Well worth paying for a driver so you can enjoy yourself. Also breaking tour up into specialty area is the way to go. Not rushing around trying to see whole island in one day.

Very Excellent Adventure Tour
What an excellent tour! Our guide, Garry, was so knowledgeable and interesting. So fun to explore with him. The tour picked us up at our rental house in a nice Sprinter van. We got to go onto private land which is pretty much uninhabited. They provided walking sticks, rain jackets, towels, day packs, snacks - everything was in great condition and excellent quality (ie. Patagonia jackets). It was so interesting to learn about the land and peoples who populated it originally. The hike was exactly as described - mild walking about 1-2 miles. Unfortunately, we were there the day before Hurricane Lala hit the island and the waterfalls were enormous so no swimming for us. Garry was amazed because he had been there 2 days prior and the size of the waterfalls was at least half to 3/4 of what we saw. We were disappointed to miss the swimming in the waterfalls but....that's nature for you. We had an excellent lunch afterwards. This tour is pricey but well worth it. I would definitely use Hawaii Forest & Trail again for other adventures.

Hawaii was everything we hoped it would be and so much more.We zip-lined through the trees, explored coffee farms and volcanoes, experienced a beautiful luau, enjoyed a sunset dinner cruise, traveled through incredible microclimates, and eaten some of the best food we’ve ever had. Every day was an adventure.But on our last day of our vacation, we were reminded that the most meaningful experiences aren’t always the ones you can plan.We had the privilege of participating in a stewardship program with this nonprofit dedicated to preserving Hawaii’s ancient lands, including the sacred Valley of the Kings on the Big Island. Guided by Native Hawaiians, we listened to stories passed down through generations and learned how to cultivate taro, the plant used to make poi and one that holds deep cultural significance.Knowing this is a place few people ever get to experience, and only with the guidance of Native islanders, made the day even more special. It was humbling, inspiring, and a powerful reminder that the heart of Hawaii isn’t just found in its breathtaking landscapes, it’s found in its people, traditions, and the care they continue to show for this extraordinary place.What an unforgettable way to end an incredible adventure. We leave with full hearts, wonderful memories, and a deep appreciation for the beauty, history, and spirit of Hawaii. 🌺❤️🙏🏻

Fantastic day in Hakalau with guide Gary
Hawaii Forest and trail is a fabulous company for finding some big island native and endemics. On our tour we were able to spend 6/7 hours in Hakalau Forest with our guide Gary. Gary was incredibly knowledgeable and a fantastic host. He was willing to answer all and any questions and seemed genuinely happy to be there and us find birds! The day is good value for money, and gives you access to an otherwise private area. With a max of 10 guests on the tour, it feels personal and not crowded. This was great for not scaring away any birds and feeling connected with the landscape. Best for any birders or nature enthusiasts who want to spot some incredibly unique bird life and have a great atmosphere along the way!
