The large turtles at the black sand beach were adorable. Lilluokalano gardens were pretty, sign up for this tour it was unique.

Desmond and Anthony started the day as strangers to us. Within a very short while we really felt like we had known them forever. How so? Their demeanor, kindness, thoughtfulness, and engagement with the whole of the group, plus their passion and enthusiasm not only for the tour but also for people too make it so.We loved their sense of humor, much needed when the weather turns a little bit wet! They know and love their homeland so much you can feel it oozing from deep inside them. What a team! What a great couple of guys! So kind, so friendly, so knowledgeable and so much fun. You will laugh, you will smile for days afterwards and you’ll cry when you have to say farewell at the end of the day.

We booked this tour last minute when our cruise ship tour was cancelled due to an approaching storm. We were extremely pleased to meet Justin and spend a fun and entertaining day with his group. We really enjoyed our Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park tour from Hilo. Everything was very well organized from the moment we got off the ship. Our guide was wonderful — she was both our driver and tour guide and did an excellent job. The bus was comfortable, the group was small, and the lunch was excellent.Unfortunately, the much-anticipated Episode 55 eruption didn’t happen during our visit, but we still saw and experienced so much. When the black sand beach became unavailable, the itinerary was adjusted to include Akaka Falls and Rainbow Falls instead, which was a great alternative.A very well-organized and enjoyable tour. We would definitely recommend it!

During our Big Island vacation, we intentionally stayed on the Hilo side for a few days, to make sure we did a tour of the Volcano National Park. Our travel agent recommended using Cool Hawaii, so that's where we started. We like the idea of a smaller group, so that's the one we chose. Turned out that Mauka Makai Adventures was our tour provider, and Jill was our tour guide. We couldn't have been luckier. Their van is newer, and very comfortable. And I can't imagine anyone any more knowledgeable than Jill. She literally grew up on the side of the volcano (in the little village of Volcano), and she knew everything about the volcano and it's history. She was constantly telling us stories about the area, which was awesome. She also knew the answer to every question anyone in the group asked. I can't say enough positive things about Jill, and strongly recommend anyone considering a volcano national park tour, to specifically request Mauka Makai. We didn't meet Jill's husband Josh, but I did speak to him twice. I'll be he's as good as Jill. And this is the only tour they do now, so they are really focused on doing the volcano tour right. Great experience.

Excellent day visiting Richardson black sands, Macadamia nut factory, the fantastic national volcanoes park, the beautiful Rainbow Falls with a bonus trip to the big island candy store. Andre was our guide and he was exceptionally helpful, knowledgeable and amusing. Lovely to have just 11 passengers on the bus. Ensured we were back to the cruise ship with plenty of time to spare. One of the best days of our holiday.

Our tour guide was Jill, and she was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable about the area (has lived on the island her entire life) and could answer any question we had. Each stop was well worth it. Jill even gave us suggestions on what to do the next day.

Justin was an awesome guide, very entertaining with all kinds of stories but also full of information about all aspects of the area. I liked seeing so many places since we were only in Hilo for a day. There was just the right amount of time in each location. I learned from him that my birthstone Peridot is the mineral that gives green sand beaches their color. I enjoyed learning that since I’ve always thought it was a kind of an uninteresting birthstone. I highly recommend Justin’s tour.
