Dave was our guide. It was a rainy day but he made the best of it. He is very knowledgeable. We only had 4 people on our tour. We were unable to swim due to the intensity of the falls but the overall experience was great fun.

Very Excellent Adventure Tour
What an excellent tour! Our guide, Garry, was so knowledgeable and interesting. So fun to explore with him. The tour picked us up at our rental house in a nice Sprinter van. We got to go onto private land which is pretty much uninhabited. They provided walking sticks, rain jackets, towels, day packs, snacks - everything was in great condition and excellent quality (ie. Patagonia jackets). It was so interesting to learn about the land and peoples who populated it originally. The hike was exactly as described - mild walking about 1-2 miles. Unfortunately, we were there the day before Hurricane Lala hit the island and the waterfalls were enormous so no swimming for us. Garry was amazed because he had been there 2 days prior and the size of the waterfalls was at least half to 3/4 of what we saw. We were disappointed to miss the swimming in the waterfalls but....that's nature for you. We had an excellent lunch afterwards. This tour is pricey but well worth it. I would definitely use Hawaii Forest & Trail again for other adventures.

We had a wonderful coffee tasting experience! It was educational, engaging, and entertaining from beginning to end. We learned so much about the growing, harvesting, roasting, and brewing process, and the tasting was both informative and enjoyable. The ATV ride was a great addition and made the experience even more fun. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking for a unique and memorable adventure!

Our Guide Kamalani was very informative on the island and we enjoyed the UTV tour and the course was muddy which made it very good for the tour. Got to taste guavas along the tour. Its great for Local families that hasn't done ATV/ UTV riding before. They teach you how to use the equipment before going out. Locals call to book your reservation:)

Hiking with Backroad Adventures was hands-down the highlight of my trip to the Big Island. Shawn and Lisa were incredibly attentive and responsive to all of my questions, even before I officialy booked my tours. I joined them for both the Pololū Valley hike and the In-depth tour of Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park, and both were exceptional.My tours were well-organized, thoughtfully planned, educational and genuinely fun. Shawn's passion for Hawaiian ecology, especially native plants and birds, really stood out and added so much depth to the experience. I learned so much about the island's landscape, history, and cultural significance.What impressed me most was their flexibility and professionalism. Kīlauea erupted the day before our Volcanoes National Park tour, and they didn’t miss a beat. It was an absolute pleasure booking with Ohana Ranch. We did the ATV tour and the Petting zoon and Hands feeding baby goats. We had multiple issues eith our travel. All 4 families were not able to make it in for the time we booked. Stacy, think that is her name was MORE then accompanying. We moved our reservation to Friday and that was the beginning of the KONA storm that hit. We reached out with our concerns and we were assured that if it was unsafe they would cancel the tour. The tour went on as scheduled and it was a ball. Pono and Maka'ala were our guides. They were great. The tour was wet and muddy there was wild life as well as cattle to see. They showed and taught about OHANA and other Hawaiian cultural information. It was interesting yo the adults as well as the children . They stopped to show us some wild berries . I think the kids ate all the ripe berries o. The bush. They showed us the sleeping plant. Also a big hit with the kids.As for the feeding the baby goats. It was the best money we spent on the island. The kids LOVED IT.Thank you so much for making our family trip a memorable one.Bernadette and Family

We contacted several tour companies looking for a private tour. Malahini was the first we found that was very accommodating for a private small group tour. We had other plans that day and our guide adjusted the tour to meet our needs. Dan was our guide and was extremely knowledgeable, friendly and fun. He made the day a great experience. Highly recommend this private tour.

Great experience with more than competent and funny management
A great experience, a super exciting tour with a very personable and extremely well-trained guide who knew more than geologically, anthropologically and biologically. That hike on narrow advised and through lava channels was super exciting and boat significantly more than one is usually used to in the US with the cautious standards. I can really recommend this tour to anyone who is sure-footed. I myself am afraid of heights, but still managed to do it because our guide seemed so safe and so calming.
