Dave was our guide. It was a rainy day but he made the best of it. He is very knowledgeable. We only had 4 people on our tour. We were unable to swim due to the intensity of the falls but the overall experience was great fun.

The day passed very quickly. The stops were well spaced out. The volcano was probably my favorite. Even though we couldn't see much due to the mist. The lava tube this was a favorite part. The drive was very enjoyable. It was so awesome to see how different the island is depending on the region you are in. Tour guide was very knowledgeable, provided. Great information and answered all our questions.

Be prepared for a long day, but it's totally worth it! You get to see a great snapshot of the island. Kawika, our tour guide, was fantastic and shared a huge amount of history and fun facts throughout the day. The stops were well placed and the volcano is a must see. If you have the chance, definitely take this tour!

A great tour, but more difficult than expected.
We are seniors in our seventies. When we read the itinerary we knew it was a long day, but the activities were very attractive and it was something we felt we could do. What we didn’t realize was the amount of time needled to acclimate to the altitude, the extent of the warnings regarding altitude sickness and the height of the vehicle from the ground to the first step. Our tour guide did a good job of explaining the need for establishing good practices in order to avoid altitude issues. She was very conscientious about ensuring everyone on the truck was safe and well educated. We didn’t anticipate the difficulties that we would encounter entering and leaving the truck. That was compounded by the number of stops and experiences that required getting on and off. While everything we experienced was wonderful and as described, it was also exhausting and personally difficult. We have nothing but good things to say regarding our guide and drivers. They were professional and caring and dedicated to making this experience positive for everyone. A stronger warning and difficulty rating might have convinced us to reconsider this tour at our age.

Thrilling swimming with manta rays
The excursion was thrilling! I was a little apprehensive beforehand, but the description on their website is spot on, and the guides made us comfortable. It is something anyone can and should experience! They provided great info on manta rays. The snorkel was incredible. We saw four large manta rays that swam right under our bellies! The boat ride during sunset was also beautiful.

It was a long drive and well worth it. Our guide Taro was very knowledgeable, took photos for us, and had anything we could possibly need (bug spray, drinks, snacks, etc). We would highly recommend. It will be a trip we will always remember!

We had a very rainy day, but Scott our tour guide made it a fun day and did the best he could with the weather he was working with. He had umbrellas for all of us, we still could see the lava in the distance even though it was very steamy. The lunch sandwiches were very good and his knowledge and sense of humor made the long car ride very interesting. Would highly recommend this tour.

My wife and I have done many ATV tours and this one led by Nate was excellent. Machines were in top shape, the route was varied and will test your skills as we went over old volcanic terrain, through large grass, and different sands. Finally, the scenery and Nate’s knowledge of island history was amazing.

Take this tour! It’s worth it!
Went on a tour with this company a few days after Hurricane Lala, so many sites were either altered or closed. However, our guide Grant made sure we had the best time. We rode around the top perimeter of the island and was able to see Rainbow Falls, stop in Hilo for specialized gifts and candies, have a wonderful lunch, and go into Kilauea to see the crater and hike the crater rim. Grant is an absolute blast! He entertained us with many stories of Hawaiian history and lore, having lived there for the past 50 years. We covered a large part of the island and drove back on the saddle. I would highly recommend this tour and tour company!

Very Excellent Adventure Tour
What an excellent tour! Our guide, Garry, was so knowledgeable and interesting. So fun to explore with him. The tour picked us up at our rental house in a nice Sprinter van. We got to go onto private land which is pretty much uninhabited. They provided walking sticks, rain jackets, towels, day packs, snacks - everything was in great condition and excellent quality (ie. Patagonia jackets). It was so interesting to learn about the land and peoples who populated it originally. The hike was exactly as described - mild walking about 1-2 miles. Unfortunately, we were there the day before Hurricane Lala hit the island and the waterfalls were enormous so no swimming for us. Garry was amazed because he had been there 2 days prior and the size of the waterfalls was at least half to 3/4 of what we saw. We were disappointed to miss the swimming in the waterfalls but....that's nature for you. We had an excellent lunch afterwards. This tour is pricey but well worth it. I would definitely use Hawaii Forest & Trail again for other adventures.
