My husband and I booked the 3-hour tour. Justin was our guide. He was very knowledgeable and funny. He took us to see things we otherwise would have missed. It was amazing walking inside a lava tube, viewing the beautiful coast with its sea arches, checking out tree molds, and so much more.Justin even gave us great recommendations for some of the best restaurants we visited on the island!

We had a rainy day with the approaching storm, however we were pleased the tour still was operating despite hearing that other tours were cancelled. Donna was fantastic tour guide, providing us history tidbits about the island and the various stops. We even had time for a bonus stop at Big Island Candies. We didn’t do a stop at the black sand beaches but we didn’t really feel like we missed anything. Tour was actually 24 people despite being advertised as 12 max, however that didnt impact our ability to enjoy the trip. The stop at macadamia nut farm was cool to be able to see the trees and the lunch was delicious.

Best tour around.
Get ready to learn all about how chocolate is processed. The owner and developer was so helpful and he really knows business. I loved his humor. Then he also has a soap processing business in there using only natural essential ingredients. I have to say this was the most memorable and best tour my husband and I have been too. Not to forget the coffee beans he grows and processes. It was so interesting to hear his life story and history behind his amazing plantation.

During our Big Island vacation, we intentionally stayed on the Hilo side for a few days, to make sure we did a tour of the Volcano National Park. Our travel agent recommended using Cool Hawaii, so that's where we started. We like the idea of a smaller group, so that's the one we chose. Turned out that Mauka Makai Adventures was our tour provider, and Jill was our tour guide. We couldn't have been luckier. Their van is newer, and very comfortable. And I can't imagine anyone any more knowledgeable than Jill. She literally grew up on the side of the volcano (in the little village of Volcano), and she knew everything about the volcano and it's history. She was constantly telling us stories about the area, which was awesome. She also knew the answer to every question anyone in the group asked. I can't say enough positive things about Jill, and strongly recommend anyone considering a volcano national park tour, to specifically request Mauka Makai. We didn't meet Jill's husband Josh, but I did speak to him twice. I'll be he's as good as Jill. And this is the only tour they do now, so they are really focused on doing the volcano tour right. Great experience.

Our tour guide was Jill, and she was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable about the area (has lived on the island her entire life) and could answer any question we had. Each stop was well worth it. Jill even gave us suggestions on what to do the next day.

We had a great time! First time using e-bikes and Derek (our tour guide) made it easy to figure out! He loves the island and the national park and had a lot of knowledge about the trees, foliage and island history and made it a fun excursion! Riding through the rain forest was so cool! It was cloudy and rainy, but it cleared by the time he took us by Kīlauea so we got to see it. Highly recommend, definitely bring a rain jacket. Plan to pay an entry fee into the park, although if you are active military or a veteran, it is free.

Great way to travel the park
This was a great experience! From the pickup at our ship we received lots of info about the area. Got fitted and briefed on the e-bikes and practiced a bit before we took off. This was a great way to travel around the park. Felt very safe and had great guides, I believe Tyler and Nicole were their names. Patient and informative. We were lucky enough to see the volcano spitting as it was expected to go at any minute. Highly recommend and now I want an e-bike!
