Great way to see the big island in a day!
What started out as an early morning, we drove to HNL airport, parked our rental car for $29 for the day. Boarded a 6am flight to Hilo, grabbed a Starbucks and were on our way. We did not need a jacket for the plane as it was the first flight and not super air conditioned. When we landed in Hilo we were met by Sean our guide for the day. Loaded up into the van, lucky for us it was only our group that day. Along the drive to Volcano park Sean was great about showing us things along the way to pass the time. We spent a good amount of time learning about the volcano ash, lava, Pele hair etc. The lava fields are so vast and intriguing. We loved seeing the fast moving and slow moving patterns along with where it meets the ocean. Feeling the steam vent was a beautiful unexpected facial. We stopped at many craters, walked the lava tube which was really cool. The rainbow falls was really nice and seeing the Banyon trees is always a sight. We ate lunch in the market and did a little shopping. We had to be wary of what to buy because we backpacked the day and had no checked luggage for the flight back. We walked the Liluokalani gardens and saw the Nene birds. We stopped at a black sand beach, caught some sea turtles and enjoyed the shore for a bit. Then on to Big Island Candies for a sample and some treats shopping. I was not a Macadamia fan before this trip, but the shortbread cookies are amazing. We had a great day with Sean and he provided us with waters and snacks to get us through the day. Highly recommend and was definitely a highlight to our Hawaii trip.

One of the best tours I've ever done. Hotel to airport pickup and flights all ran smoothly as described. Sean was THE BEST! Very relaxed, accommodating and answered all our curious questions. Sean was obviously proud about his island and it's wonderful features. We didn't see Mt Kilauea erupting but Sean sent pictures of the eruption from 2 days before. Water and snacks were also part of the tour which was a nice touch. Cannot recommend this tour highly enough.

Very Excellent Adventure Tour
What an excellent tour! Our guide, Garry, was so knowledgeable and interesting. So fun to explore with him. The tour picked us up at our rental house in a nice Sprinter van. We got to go onto private land which is pretty much uninhabited. They provided walking sticks, rain jackets, towels, day packs, snacks - everything was in great condition and excellent quality (ie. Patagonia jackets). It was so interesting to learn about the land and peoples who populated it originally. The hike was exactly as described - mild walking about 1-2 miles. Unfortunately, we were there the day before Hurricane Lala hit the island and the waterfalls were enormous so no swimming for us. Garry was amazed because he had been there 2 days prior and the size of the waterfalls was at least half to 3/4 of what we saw. We were disappointed to miss the swimming in the waterfalls but....that's nature for you. We had an excellent lunch afterwards. This tour is pricey but well worth it. I would definitely use Hawaii Forest & Trail again for other adventures.

Fantastic adventure. Great way to see the Big Island and all its charms in one day. From black sand beaches all the way to volcanic craters, what a perfect day. Our guide Lewis was phenomenal. If you book this trip, call the Company and ask for him. He is that good. Knowledgeable, friendly, adaptable, everything you want in a guide. We really felt like we had our own personal tour of the Island. What a great person and a true professional. I can’t say enough about him and the experience we had today. It was just incredible!

Thankfully for whatever reason we were drawn to this business as soon as we got off the cruise. The guide walked us to an open vehicle that took minutes driving us to the office so we could pay for our tour. Another Thankful moment they had two tickets left to do exactly what I had in mind for the day!!! So the earlier you can get here the better chance you have especially if you want to tour the volcano & waterfall. Daniel was a great tour guide, lots of kindness, down to earth & family oriented! He had his tour mapped out so his group could sightsee the main attractions of Hilo. Lots of insight given about Hilo with Daniel leading the way. I could not have asked for a more perfect day than we had despite not knowing how I was gonna get around to things I read about. It helped our group was on time from sightseeing each time dropped off. The traffic picked up as the day went on but Daniel got us back to the cruise ahead of schedule for departure

Great experience with Steve. He was so knowledgeable and even had snacks in his van. We went to all the sights on the itinerary and Steve gave us enough time to explore without us being delayed.
