We thought the weather would affect our trip but it was perfect. We were above the clouds and the clouds just parted. The sunset on Mauna Kea was beautiful and stargazing was great even with a bit of a bright moon. James, our guide with Hawaiian Eyes tours arranged through Cool Hawaii, was top notch and fun to be with. He was extremely attentive to safety and knowledgeable about the stars and landscape. We are very grateful To our relatives who recommended this to us.

Agnes is the kind of guide you hope for but rarely get — warm, knowledgeable, and genuinely fun to be around. From the moment she picked us up, she set the tone for an incredible day in Hilo. She knows SO much about the island, but she shares it in a way that feels like a great conversation, not a lecture. She welcomed every question we had (and we had plenty!), and she made it feel like she was genuinely excited to share more whenever we asked.She took us everywhere: an erupting volcano (yes, erupting!), local shops, a beautiful beach, waterfalls, gardens, and those massive banyan trees that make you feel tiny in the best way. Early on, she noticed how interested we were in the plants around us, so she started pointing out names, stories, and uses — and we even ended up tasting wild ginger on the side of the road. It was such a fun, unexpected moment that made the day feel even more personal.And when someone mentioned macadamia nuts, she didn’t hesitate — she made it happen. Agnes is flexible, thoughtful, and clearly loves what she does. Her car was stocked with water, snacks, and umbrellas, which tells you everything about how prepared and caring she is.This tour was one of our favorite experiences in Hawaii, and Agnes made it unforgettable. Book her — you’ll be so glad you did.

Take this tour! It’s worth it!
Went on a tour with this company a few days after Hurricane Lala, so many sites were either altered or closed. However, our guide Grant made sure we had the best time. We rode around the top perimeter of the island and was able to see Rainbow Falls, stop in Hilo for specialized gifts and candies, have a wonderful lunch, and go into Kilauea to see the crater and hike the crater rim. Grant is an absolute blast! He entertained us with many stories of Hawaiian history and lore, having lived there for the past 50 years. We covered a large part of the island and drove back on the saddle. I would highly recommend this tour and tour company!

The views are amazing. The drive up the mountain is very bumpy and I was so glad I went with a tour instead of driving up myself. Our tour guide James was very knowledgeable about the everything we experienced even the history of the road we drove on.

A Great Tour
I just finished this tour and I am so happy I signed up for this trip. What a great tour of the Big Island! First of all, communication with Eric the day was perfect - plans had to change to due the impending storm and early closures. I can’t say enough about our guide Dave - he was a great driver and an excellent tour guide - very friendly and knowledgeable. Big Island Candies is a nice, local stop. Volcano National Park is always a great destination to visit. Lunch at Volcano House and the view was absolutely amazing. (A decent lunch and admission was included in the price.) Spending time at the Black Sand Beach and the coffee farm were nice stops to end the trip. I highly recommend and I would do this trip again on a future visit to the Big Island.
