Things to do over the New Year's Day long weekend in Big Island of Hawaii (Updated 2026)

I am happy we went for this experience.

the guide was a tremendous. the road up to the telescopes is bumpy. Be prepared to have supplemental oxygen for the elderly;y and those wet don't do well with elavaatiion. The best thing was when it was dark enough tojo see the Milky Way my wife hugged me and said " thank you for bringing me here, I have never been able to see it! Her smile and hug meant every7thingh yo me.

Bryce was an amazing guide and definitely helped make this tour fun and memorable! The grounds are beautiful and all of the staff were very welcoming. There were plenty of coffee samples upon arrival as well as some chocolate samples. We enjoyed learning about Kona coffee and would recommend this tour to others!

Feeling the love. Great activity for family with toddler who loves rocks! Hosts who are invested in the land and people. Unique experience, worth it!

Absolutely epic experiance. Great captain and crew. I always felt safe. We had 4 female Mantas and some sharks show up. Amazing. Would be nice if someone gave us info on the Mantas and if long poled cameras were banned to improve others experiance though.

Captain Erika and Jake were great. We came when hurricane Lowell was out there and it was not ideal snorkeling conditions. However, they were professional, friendly and entertaining. We were still able to get in the water safely and got a history lesson on the way back in. Highly recommend the tour and crew.

We had great food, drinks, and weather. Ellie was a wonderful host, and knowegable about the area and history. Yay!

We had an amazing experience on this tour! The sunset was absolutely beautiful!Our guide, Jason, was fantastic — funny, engaging, and incredibly knowledgeable; he shared so many interesting stories and insights about the island which made the whole experience feel much more special.

Easy trip to get a feel for snorkeling without the effort. Nice reef just offshore , lots of tropical fish and coral formations . Maika our guide was very nice and knowledge.

An amazing time as a first time horse rider. The supplier did great working with us to still make the tour happen despite the adverse weather conditions. Patricia and Rhonda were great guides and made it a memorable experience.

Was a bit apprehensive at first but the crew did a great job of reassuring everyone. Great vibes and it was amazing seeing the manta rays from so close. A must on Hawai'i Island.

This was our second trip with Michael and his crew in the past six months. We thoroughly enjoyed our sunset cruise. We found the crew to be professional, engaging and very attentive to the needs of all onboard. We almost had a completely full boat so that must have been challenging for them! We would absolutely do this activity again on our next visit. Thank you for a great time!

We had such an amazing time on the Ohana Ranch UTV excursion! My husband and I had so much fun exploring the ranch and taking in the beautiful scenery. Kalani was an incredible tour guide…friendly, knowledgeable, and made the experience so much more special. We especially loved learning about Hawaiian culture, traditions, and the history of the land. It felt like so much more than just a UTV ride…it was a really meaningful and memorable experience.We had an absolute blast and would definitely recommend Ohana Ranch to anyone visiting Hawaii! Mahalo, Kalani, for making our day so unforgettable!

It’s a little out of the way but totally worth it. The tour guide was very informative and fun . Everyone I met there were super nice and friendly. Definitely recommend!!
