Kauai Self-guided Tours & Rentals

Really enjoyed getting to do the experience without a large group - and at our own pace. The boards are fun and the river is mostly low traffic. The hike to the waterfall was slightly crowded, but mostly nice and a unique activity for the island. Alternated between standing and kneeling on the board due to wind, but both worked well.One note of caution. We're both decently fit (30's/40's) and had a VERY hard time on one section due to the strong winds. Literally pushing us backwards for a few minutes. The river doesn't really have edges to stop for a break, and you'll have to power through it. Kayaks were gliding easily at the same time, so if you have hesitations, go that route. Also, beware the tour boats, the wake is pretty intense and about dumped me off when standing.

Beautiful views and fun activity. Just be ready for the paddle back upstream and upwind. Also, don't stand on the paddle board when the barge comes by and leaves a wake. Unless, you want to take a little refreshing dip in the river :) Very friendly help at the office too!

Pickup was easy. Boe gave great customer service. He showed is where to go to park, path to kayak & hike. He even helped load and unload the kayaks on top of our vehicle. Would highly recommend this excursion & to support this business.

We rented kayaks from Stand Up Paddle and had such a great experience! The guy there was incredibly polite, friendly, and helpful. The kayaking was beautiful, and the hike to the Secret Falls was absolutely amazing. Everything about the day was fun and memorable. Highly recommend

This is a 2 hr scavenger hunt like no other. The tour operator communicated with us via WhatsApp messaging and encouraged our group to split into teams and come up with a team name - the competition began. We used an app to randoming sort our family of 6 (plus a baby) into 2 groups. As it turned out, the extroverts in our family were grouped together giving them a decided advantage. Tara walked us through the concept of the hunt - the goal is to learn some new things about Hanalei (where our hunt was happening), and Hawai'i in general. We all had a lot of fun searching out locations, deciding what we would do for certain challenges, meeting locals and finding out a lot of new and interesting things about the area and the Hawaiian culture. A day later and we're still talking about some of the characters we met and how we approached different challenges. Would highly recommend doing this activity with a group of friends or family; breaking up into teams was a great idea! Thanks Tara for the fun experience!

We had a lot of fun! Know that this isn’t just a “find the things” but also an “interact with the locals” hunt. It took a bit for my shy kids to come around to that but it was great time. Thanks, Tara!

This was our second time renting from Sensational Sea Scooters and it was once again such a blast! Kelly has clearly grown the business over the last few years and it's great to see how many others have enjoyed the scooters. While my family and I snorkeled multiple days on our trip and are solid swimmers, having one outing with the scooters is still a lot of fun and worth trying for anyone on the fence. Make sure to figure out which part of the island you'd like to experience with them so you know which location to book!

We were having a very difficult trip with the weather and the some lodging challenges and Tamba worked was really friendly and helpful each time we talked with them! I also saw their shop's stickers all around the island of Kaua'i. They seem like a great company with lots of local knowledge and connections and support.

The sea scooters are awesome and super helpful when snorkeling, I would definitely recommend booking the scooters. My husband and I rented the scooters for two separate days during our trip and we loved them. The owner is also super sweet and knowledgeable, she was beyond helpful! Next time we return to Kauai we will definitely be renting the scooters through sensational sea adventure again! The service was spectacular!

This was a surprising and fun introduction to the island. You can tell it’s designed and hosted by a tour guide and storyteller who had us doing creative photos and videos and searching for clues. Glad we did this on our second day on the island. It was conveniently near where we stayed at the Pono Kai. We found it on our own online. Concierge didn’t know about it. The kids had fun too.

Wow! What a fun and refreshing new shore excursion in Kauai! We love cruising and have been to Kauai before. We did Waimea Canyon last time. It was pretty for sure but a ton of time in the car.. I didnt want to do that with the kids this time and was trying to figure out a good alternative.. my cruise director didnt even have this in the activities list! I found it myself online on Cool Hawaii! Maybe because its so new? The host said it was a brand new location and I think we were some of the first to do it, though she said she has hunts in other locations, one on the north shore on Hanalei. It was so different than any other shore excursion we have done. It was small and personal instead of large scale and impersonal. The kids had a great time being detectives on the hunt, being creative and getting fun clues with our phone and we even met some awesome locals we would never have talked to without the hunt. Great price, too.. less than any other shore excursion. I just wish this was offered at all the ports!

This experience was perfect for my husband and I. We saw groups of people with tour guides. It’s a waste to pay someone for this experience since you can’t hear them on the water, they can’t paddle for you, and all they’re doing is wrangling people. My husband and I really enjoyed our solo to trip to the not-at-all “secret falls”. We took our time. We saw plenty of small children and older adults on the walk. It was not a challenging hike, but make sure at least one person on each paddle board can actually paddle. Oddly enough, going upstream was easy and downstream was challenging due to the winds. If you go early in the day, some of that can be avoided. The only slightly annoying bit was the parking lots where we unloaded our paddle boards charged BOTH for car parking AND a per person launching fee for using their dock. Ridiculous. You cannot leave things save the parking fee by having a party member drop you and walk back. Good luck finding street parking though (bring CASH for fees).

Checking in with the worker was easy and the set up was fast. We appreciated the detailed directions on where to go for our experience.

What a great place to rent boards! We got four surfboards and 4 boogie boards for a week. Saa, the owner, helped us out and gave me simple instructions for strapping the boards onto our rental minivan. (SUPER easy and the boards did great up there.)The board selection was very diverse and he gave some recommendations based on our experience level and conditions. We ended up with a 9’ epoxy, 2 soft tops (7’ and 8’), and a short board (about 5’ 3”). Three of my kids caught the waves of their lives at Hanalei Bay yesterday. So cool!We had to get some Tamba merch when we got back. Shirts, hats, and stickers. We hope to be back! In the meantime, we’ll be repping the brand on Cali’s Central Coast!
