In all my years of travel, I don't think I've had a better guide than Aaron. His passion for what he does spilled over to everyone on this excursion. We were hesitant with the impending Hurricane Nolo coming in the next day. Aaron was not only reassuring but he made adjustments and additions to our tour that extended the trip and added great value. Friendly, knowledgeable, safety-minded are just some of his attributes. Aaron is the MAN! Amazing tour and day with him. he has a NEW passenger van and takes you to all the BEST places in Hilo. Need to stop at Longs...no problem...want the best poke on the island...he takes you there also. Much better deal than NCL tours which are cattle drives, this is a personal GREAT trip. Rom from Nomad tours was incredible! So knowledgeable, he shared interesting facts related to the trip during our long drive from Kona. He went above and beyond to make our tour the highlight of the trip. By sheer luck, the volcano was erupting the day we had planned to tour the Volcano National Park but despite our best efforts, the park closed literally as we arrived… Rom was kind enough to schedule another day to take us out and finish the tour. Truly unforgettable and we were so appreciative! Worth every cent, if you are on the fence about whether it’s worth the money, book now!

We were a family of 5 and this tour was curated just for us! Rom is incredibly knowledgeable in all things Hawaii. He was informative, always attentive to our questions and needs and made everyone feel comfortable. The views were breathtaking. At sunset we went stargazing and his astrophotography expertise was a hit with everyone. We were able to catch amazing pictures! If you want to avoid the crowds and have a custom made tour, Nomad Tours is the place to go!

This was a great trip. The family loved it including the kiddos. Rob was great and very accommodating. The trip from Kona is a long day if you drive it yourself. This is a great way to see the volcano from Kona and have some energy for the pool or Kona nightlife.

Aaron is simply the best! We had the most unbelievable day with him. He was easy to communicate with and easy to work with. He picked us up promptly and took us to the volcano first where it was erupting. It ended up raining down lava rocks and we were the only people with large umbrellas. Aaron was prepared for any and everything! His excitement and enthusiasm made an unbelievable day even better! And he’s so knowledgeable!! I couldn’t recommend him more and would definitely book another tour with him when we come back to The Big Island. Thank you Aaron!!!

Our Road to Hana tour was honestly one of the highlights of our trip 🌺A huge thank you to our guide for making the entire day feel effortless, fun, and incredibly memorable. The drive itself can be intense with all the winding roads, but we felt completely safe and well taken care of the whole time.What really stood out was how knowledgeable and engaging our guide was — sharing the history, culture, and hidden gems of Maui along the way. We never felt rushed, and every stop felt perfectly timed. From the waterfalls to the scenic overlooks, it was clear they knew exactly how to make the most of the day.We also appreciated the little details — the local tips, the storytelling, and the genuine passion for what they do. It made the experience feel personal rather than just another tour.If you’re thinking about doing the Road to Hana, I can’t recommend going with a guide enough. Our Hilo excursion with Nomad Tours was truly the highlight of our trip to Hawaiʻi! From the lush rainforest at Akaka Falls to the dramatic landscapes of Volcanoes National Park, every moment was unforgettable. The views were breathtaking, especially the steam vents and lava tube—like stepping into another world!The stop at Punaluʻu Black Sand Beach was magical—we even saw sea turtles resting on the shore. And the short visit to Rainbow Falls was a great surprise!What made the day extra special was our guide, Rom. He was incredibly professional, knowledgeable, and passionateabout Hawaiian history and culture. Rom shared beautiful stories about Pele and the island’s volcanic origins, answered every question with care, and made sure everyone felt comfortable and engaged. I searched for a while for tours departing from Kona to Volcanoes National Park and kept coming back to Big Island VIP. After emailing with Jodi and having our questions answered, we booked with them. Zero regrets. Rob, our guide was punctual, friendly and totally knowledgeable about all aspects of the island and the volcanoes. He took us to various places in the park as well as places off the beaten track. Myself and my family learned so much from Rob. The van was comfortable and the company provided snacks, water and informational videos for the ride. In addition to the park, Rob recommended a place for lunch and took us to Rainbow falls and the Hilo farmers market. Rob and Jodi also provided us with invaluable tips for the rest of our vacation. This was undoubtedly one of the best tours I have ever been on in any country. I know it may seem pricey, but trust me -- you get what you pay for. 100% worth it.

This full-day tour of Volcanoes National Park was the highlight of our trip to the Big Island! Every stop was thoughtfully planned, and we truly felt like we experienced the best of Hawaii’s natural wonders in one amazing day.Our guide was exceptional — knowledgeable, friendly, and passionate about the island’s volcanic history and culture. We explored steam vents, walked through the incredible Thurston Lava Tube, and had breathtaking views of Halemaʻumaʻu Crater. The 2-hour hike across Kīlauea Iki Crater was unforgettable — standing on a once-molten lava lake was like walking on another planet!We also loved the scenic drive down to the Hōlei Sea Arch and the visit to the beautiful black sand beach at Punaluʻu, where we were lucky enough to see sea turtles resting on the shore.The tour was well-paced, educational, and full of jaw-dropping landscapes.
