Beautiful hike.
Deborah was our guide. She did an excellent job pointing out different foliage, birds and lava formations. The hike was difficult at times but she was very cautious and made sure we were all safe. The lava tube was great. Would definitely recommend this hike but be aware that we climbed to almost 6000 feet and it wasn’t easy. THis is great tour company.

We had a rainy day with the approaching storm, however we were pleased the tour still was operating despite hearing that other tours were cancelled. Donna was fantastic tour guide, providing us history tidbits about the island and the various stops. We even had time for a bonus stop at Big Island Candies. We didn’t do a stop at the black sand beaches but we didn’t really feel like we missed anything. Tour was actually 24 people despite being advertised as 12 max, however that didnt impact our ability to enjoy the trip. The stop at macadamia nut farm was cool to be able to see the trees and the lunch was delicious.

Perfect experience!
We took an 8 hour private tour for 5 people to celebrate my friend’s birthday. We were lucky enough to have two guides. Derek and Chris. They were both very knowledgeable about the volcanoes, coffee farm, turtles, lava tubes and Hilo. They were very cognizant of our comfort and areas of interest. We thoroughly enjoyed our trip. Derek even surprised my friend with a cake. A perfect day!!!!

Seeing the volcano was the main event, but the Queen Liluokalani Gardens were beautiful. The Rainbow Waterfall was one of the more memorable falls on my trip. I learned a lot about volcanoes from Kemo. He was the best!

We travel quite a bit, and this was one of the very best tours we have been on. We went not only to volcanoes national Park, but to the waterfall tour and historic downtown Hilo but what made the trip the most enjoyable was our tour guide Kimo. He was extremely knowledgeable and very, very friendly and welcoming. Highly recommend him for any tour.

Amazing trip! Sunset was beautiful! The guides and crew were very knowledgeable and explained in detail what we were going to do and see while we were snorkeling with the Manta Rays! Our guide explained what the Manta Rays would be doing and added some interesting facts and information about the Manta Rays too. Highly recommend this amazing experience!

During our Big Island vacation, we intentionally stayed on the Hilo side for a few days, to make sure we did a tour of the Volcano National Park. Our travel agent recommended using Cool Hawaii, so that's where we started. We like the idea of a smaller group, so that's the one we chose. Turned out that Mauka Makai Adventures was our tour provider, and Jill was our tour guide. We couldn't have been luckier. Their van is newer, and very comfortable. And I can't imagine anyone any more knowledgeable than Jill. She literally grew up on the side of the volcano (in the little village of Volcano), and she knew everything about the volcano and it's history. She was constantly telling us stories about the area, which was awesome. She also knew the answer to every question anyone in the group asked. I can't say enough positive things about Jill, and strongly recommend anyone considering a volcano national park tour, to specifically request Mauka Makai. We didn't meet Jill's husband Josh, but I did speak to him twice. I'll be he's as good as Jill. And this is the only tour they do now, so they are really focused on doing the volcano tour right. Great experience.

It was a long drive and well worth it. Our guide Taro was very knowledgeable, took photos for us, and had anything we could possibly need (bug spray, drinks, snacks, etc). We would highly recommend. It will be a trip we will always remember!
