We learned about Haleakalā, volcanic rift zones, cinder cones, lava flows and how the Hawaiian Island chain was formed. My family of three were picked up from our hotel in Lahaina by our driver/tour guide, Lyman. Lyman was personable, funny, super knowledgeable of the area and island, and a great driver! He was mindful of our interests, needs and comfort. We had snacks and lunch at some local spots and developed a newfound appreciation for the nature and beauty that Maui has to share! The tour was about nine hours long, but time flew by and we hardly noticed how long we had been driving around from start to finish.

A stress free trip to Hāna and the backside.
My wife and I went on the road to Hāna ultimate trip which included returning via the backside. Eugene is a small business owner, who was great. He is extremely knowledgeable. The trip is customized to your likes and speed. You get to go to places that larger vans don’t go to. I’m glad I did not drive the roads myself. Lots of hairpin turns, single lane roads and bridges. You get to sit back and enjoy the scenery rather than focus on driving. Eugene knew that the backside road would be closed while they worked on shoring up the cliffs and that it wouldn’t open until the afternoon, so he planned the trip accordingly. A sign also said local traffic only.

We will never forget our day on the road to Hana with Patricia. We saw some breath taking sites. Patricia knew exactly where to stop and was extremely knowledgeable. We got many beautiful pictures and many cherished memories. Banana bread, coffee, ice cream and huli huli chicken were great! After a long day in the road to Hana we ventured up to the top of Haleakala. We had never seen a sunset as beautiful as that, it was almost spiritual. We spent 12 hours together and Patricia was amazingly patient, knowledgeable and charismatic. This was an amazing day. We highly recommend this tour and our tour guide Patricia.

The road is about 120 miles but it takes all day!! We did not make anywhere near the possible stops that were mentioned. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride! I drove a rental minivan so that my 4 travel would not miss out. The weather was perfect and it was a great learning experience!
