The whole team was super friendly, welcoming, and professional, and we immediately felt comfortable.A special shoutout to our surf instructor Kainoe – he was absolutely incredible! 🤙 He was so patient, encouraging, and positive, and explained everything in a way that was easy to understand. He really took the time to make sure we felt safe and confident in the water, while still making the lesson so much fun.Thanks to Kainoe, we managed to catch some waves and had such an unforgettable experience! You can really tell that he loves what he does and genuinely enjoys teaching people how to surf. He made our surf lesson in Maui something we will remember for a long time.We enjoyed it so much that we immediately booked another lesson!Thank you so much, Kainoe, and the whole team, for such an amazing experience! We've been to Hans Hedemann Surf School twice - once recently and once 2 years ago. That says a lot right there. We had such a good experience the first time that we were willing to pay for it a second time. The safety prep is done well and the instructors really stick with you out in the water. It's been a great experience overall.

Max was the epitome of “surf is life.” From start to finish, he was professional, patient, passionate, and genuinely invested in making the experience special. Most importantly, he was amazing with my 6-year-old daughter, Paisley. He knew exactly how to make her feel comfortable, encouraged her every step of the way, and turned her first surfing experience into something she’ll never forget. This ended up being one of the best memories of our daddy-daughter trip, and Max deserves a huge amount of credit for that. We came for a surf lesson and left with an experience we’ll talk about for years. P.S. — Do yourself a favor and add the drone video with his partner OG. The footage is absolutely incredible and captured moments we otherwise never would have had. Totally worth it! Thank you, Max and OG, for an unforgettable experience!

My daughter was drawn to Sunset Suzy’s because of her dogs. Her theory was that dog people are nice. Suzy and Jon were nice, supportive and encouraging. We all were surfing within minutes of starting. Suzy and Jon were conscientious of safety while ensuring that we were having fun surfing. They gave encouraging tips to help us improve our skills and gave us great memories. Thank you!

I tried surfing for the first time ever in Hawaii! I had such a blast in the group lesson and met a lot of nice people! The instructor’s Devon and Theo were very friendly and knowledgeable about surfing and they were very encouraging to everyone as most of us were all newbies. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to try something new and get out of their comfort zone. I will say it is quite the workout to paddle out to the waves and does get exhausting. If you are aren’t in decent physical shape and very comfortable around the ocean I would caution you for safety to make sure this is something you are comfortable doing. It was a blast and I can’t wait to go back to Maui and try again!

Peter was a fantastic instructor and this lesson was a blast! It was my first time surfing and he had great tips to help me gain confidence on the board. Check-in and lock rental at Big Wave Dave's surf shop was also very clear and straightforward. I would absolutely do this lesson again!
