- Pack warm clothes -- temperatures can drop below freezing at the summit.
- The tour starts and ends in Kahului. If you are coming from the resort areas of Ka'anapali or Lahaina in West Maui, it's about a 45-minute drive to the start in Kahului.
- There’s nowhere to buy food in the park. Pack a picnic or eat before you go.
- Entrance to Haleakala National Park is $30 per car -- you can pay with credit, debit, or digital form of payment. Cash is no longer accepted.
- The sun sets at about 5:30 p.m. in the winter and 7:00 p.m. in the summer. If you want to see the stars, you need to wait around for an hour after sunset.
- Expect to spend about 4-6 hours on the tour.
- We recommend starting from Kahului around noon.
- Travelers must have a smartphone compatible with the Shaka Guide app.
- The app must be downloaded and the tour redeemed before arrival.
