The Real Oahu — A Fantastic Day with Mac
We’ve just come back from a tour with Oahu Photo Tours, and honestly, what a day!
Our guide was Malcolm (Mac), who was brilliant from start to finish. Pick-up was bang on time, the vehicle was absolutely spotless, and because it was a small group, the whole day felt relaxed and personal rather than like being herded around on a big coach.
Our first stop was just outside town for a fresh doughnut — and when I say fresh, I mean fresh! Along with the doughnut there was the opportunity to grab a drink and use the restroom before we headed on.
As we got out into the suburbs, we started seeing some absolutely spectacular properties, many of them right on the oceanfront. Some were in the region of $6.2 million, and when you saw the views, you could understand why. They were simply stunning.
And this was the Hawaii I had imagined before we came — incredible coastline, beautiful scenery and that feeling of being somewhere really special. It was such a contrast to Waikiki, which is very commercialised, busy and full of hotels and tourists.
This tour really showed us another side of Oahu, and if you want to get away from Waikiki and see the real Hawaiian landscape, I’d definitely recommend doing this tour.
Mac also takes loads of photographs throughout the day, which is a really nice touch. He shares them afterwards in different ways, including AirDrop and email, so you come away with some great memories without having to spend the whole day trying to take photographs yourself.
He was also incredibly helpful with Linda, helping her on and off the vehicle whenever needed, and he had a great sense of humour throughout the day. Nothing seemed too much trouble.
And then came my moment of stupidity!
I somehow managed to leave my phone behind. By the time we got back to the Moana Surfrider, I realised what I’d done and went back looking for it. And there was Mac — actually parked outside the hotel, phone in hand, waiting to return it to me!
You couldn’t ask for better service than that.
A great tour, a fantastic day and, most importantly, a great guy as our guide.
