Great first time surfing experience
This was me and my girlfriends first time surfing, we had a great time and would definitely recommend it to anyone. The instructors were so patient and truly just wanted you to do your best. They started with an intro to how to get up and made sure you were comfortable before heading out. They provided you with water shirts and reef shoes which was definitely needed. You put all your stuff in a tub and kept it secure. They got great pictures and videos of us and were so glad we bought the picture package before arriving because it was a lot cheaper!

My daughter was drawn to Sunset Suzy’s because of her dogs. Her theory was that dog people are nice. Suzy and Jon were nice, supportive and encouraging. We all were surfing within minutes of starting. Suzy and Jon were conscientious of safety while ensuring that we were having fun surfing. They gave encouraging tips to help us improve our skills and gave us great memories. Thank you!

We had the best experience! We booked a semi private lesson for 3 first time young adult surfers (17-25). Same day booking was easy and accommodating. Kala was great with communication and where to meet up. Our instructor Aton made our experience fantastic! He helped us catch the waves and we were up on the first wave! Not only helpful with surfing, but with all local questions and recommendations of the island. Our favorite of all the experiences we did! Highly recommend!

So much fun!! It was my first time surfing ever and I was scared but my instructors made it very comfortable and took care of us! Our instructor was super funny and hyped us up to ride the waves. He kept us safe as well since the spot we were surfing at was kinda shallow. It was a very fun experience and felt taken care of the whole time.

I can’t say enough good things about our surfing experience with Jon and Suzy! They had me and my two daughters, 11 and 9, up and catching waves after three tries. Another great session with Ty Gurney Surf School!I had a two-hour lesson on August 8 with Aiden, and this was another step forward in getting back into surfing.The ocean was pretty placid that morning, so there wasn’t a ton to work with, but Aiden made the most of what we had. He paddled up from his previous lesson right before our start time, introduced himself, and we headed straight out. One of the first things he did was ask what I wanted to work on. He listened, addressed exactly those areas, and did a great job explaining what I could change and why.We worked on my paddling, positioning, and catching waves on my own 9’6” board. I caught some waves and whitewater, got to my feet, and kept working even when the ocean wasn’t giving us much. Toward the end I was still hoping we’d get one more good wave—which probably says everything about how much fun I was having.This was also the first time I’ve done the full two-hour lesson with Ty Gurney. My first lesson, back in June, was on one of their big 12-foot boards with a lot of assistance. Since then I’ve gotten my own board and have been learning how to do more and more for myself. It’s harder, but it’s also much more rewarding.Aiden was patient, knowledgeable, encouraging, and gave me tips I can actually take with me when I’m surfing on my own.And as I was getting started, the previous group was coming back in from better conditions earlier that morning. The smiles on their faces said plenty about their experience too.Another great morning in the water. I’m really enjoying the progression and will absolutely keep coming back to Ty Gurney Surf School.Mahalo, Aiden! Can’t wait for the next one. 🤙🌊

As a solo traveler trying surfing for the very first time, my private lesson with Marco and the Ohana Surf Project was an experience I’ll never forget. Marco took care of me every step of the way. He was incredibly patient, kind, supportive, and encouraging, especially when I was one of the last people to finally stand up on the board. Not once did I feel discouraged. The entire team and even the other participants cheered me on and celebrated my success like it was their own. To top it all off, they captured the experience with amazing photos and videos that I’ll treasure forever.
