This was an amazing & unique experience!! Christine is a wonderful host & it was so interesting to learn all about her sweet babies & the gorgeous upcountry. It was definitely a nice side trip & lovely way to spend the evening & watch that breathtaking sunset. I wish I had researched more about the upcountry because it has a lot to offer & is a very cool vibe. Thank you so much for the memorable adventure!!! If an adventure is what you’re looking for, an adventure is what you’ll get! It’s always difficult knowing which tour to book and trusting that you’ll actually get an experience that feels truly unique—but you can rest assured, this one will not disappoint! From the beautiful drive to an absolutely breathtaking hike and waterfall, this is one of those experiences that photographs simply won’t do justice. This is the kind of adventure you won’t find in many places, and if you’re lucky enough to have Sirena Sastre as your guide (which I’m sure you can request!), you’re in for an even more memorable experience. By the end of the day, you’ll feel like you’ve met up with a long-lost friend.The hike can be a bit slippery so be sure to get a shoe that has some grip that you don’t mind getting muddy. We got the Aqurun for around $20 which worked out perfectly. While most of the trail is flat be prepared to climb a little and cross a river or two! The guide will help you when needed!Since this isn’t a well known spot you may even get it to yourselves which is such a remarkable experience.

During our Big Island vacation, we intentionally stayed on the Hilo side for a few days, to make sure we did a tour of the Volcano National Park. Our travel agent recommended using Cool Hawaii, so that's where we started. We like the idea of a smaller group, so that's the one we chose. Turned out that Mauka Makai Adventures was our tour provider, and Jill was our tour guide. We couldn't have been luckier. Their van is newer, and very comfortable. And I can't imagine anyone any more knowledgeable than Jill. She literally grew up on the side of the volcano (in the little village of Volcano), and she knew everything about the volcano and it's history. She was constantly telling us stories about the area, which was awesome. She also knew the answer to every question anyone in the group asked. I can't say enough positive things about Jill, and strongly recommend anyone considering a volcano national park tour, to specifically request Mauka Makai. We didn't meet Jill's husband Josh, but I did speak to him twice. I'll be he's as good as Jill. And this is the only tour they do now, so they are really focused on doing the volcano tour right. Great experience.

Our tour guide was Jill, and she was phenomenal. Very knowledgeable about the area (has lived on the island her entire life) and could answer any question we had. Each stop was well worth it. Jill even gave us suggestions on what to do the next day.

Lovely Experience- Just Not a Movie Filming Tour!
We had a lot of fun on our tour. Getting to see such beautiful parts of the island on horseback was a once in a lifetime experience. Our guide was very kind and patient with everyone’s varying comfort level with riding. I only wish they had talked more about the movies filmed on site, as that’s what we thought the tour was about. They did mention two scenes, but we didn’t really have a chance to stop and take photos or ask questions. It was also hard to hear as our guide was very soft spoken. Over all however it was such a beautiful trip that we would do it again!
