This was my first time surfing, and I had a lot of fun! Jase was friendly, funny, respectful, and professional from the start. He brought water shoes, rash guards, and surf boards for everyone. He also kept our valuables safely locked in his truck. That was a big relief. Before entering the water, we did a lesson (on land) about popping up on the board. Each person had several chances to practice and receive individualized feedback. Then we paddled out and Jase helped us catch waves. It was super fun gliding on the water, even if for brief moments at times. Afterward, we rinsed off with fresh sun-heated water that he brought in a large tank in his truck. Jase was super helpful, fun, and safety oriented throughout the lesson. I definitely recommend this event and Jase as a surf instructor.

My daughter was drawn to Sunset Suzy’s because of her dogs. Her theory was that dog people are nice. Suzy and Jon were nice, supportive and encouraging. We all were surfing within minutes of starting. Suzy and Jon were conscientious of safety while ensuring that we were having fun surfing. I tried surfing for the first time ever in Hawaii! I had such a blast in the group lesson and met a lot of nice people! The instructor’s Devon and Theo were very friendly and knowledgeable about surfing and they were very encouraging to everyone as most of us were all newbies. I highly recommend this experience to anyone looking to try something new and get out of their comfort zone. I will say it is quite the workout to paddle out to the waves and does get exhausting. If you are aren’t in decent physical shape and very comfortable around the ocean I would caution you for safety to make sure this is something you are comfortable doing. It was a blast and I can’t wait to go back to Maui and try again!

I can’t say enough good things about our surfing experience with Jon and Suzy! They had me and my two daughters, 11 and 9, up and catching waves after three tries. It was a wonderful addition to our family vacation and I’d recommend them to anyone looking for a fun, family friendly activity on the North Shore!

Mario was very patient with my two kids who had their very first surfing lesson with him. He made the lesson easy to understand and fun! He made sure they understood all of the safety aspects before letting them get out on the waves. In particular, Mario was very kind to my daughter who was really scared to get out there. Connor and Azure were fantastic instructors. They were so good with our 2 kids. In our first lesson, all of us were on our feet shredding waves. We even learned new Maui slang words like "crip" and "cherry"! They provided insights into how the waves of the ocean work and how to properly ride them. We had such a great first lesson we rebooked for later in our trip. We are hoping to come back to Maui soon and continue learning how to surf!
